Tracer Specimen

Tracer specimens are baselines that measure the activity of the tracer label, and are taken from the same sources used for all of the assay samples. The tracer specimen can be labeled cells in a bioassay or the total count in an isotopic assay. Measuring the tracer specimen allows the inter-assay variation between tracer labels to be factored out of adjusted responses.
